actions

It is difficult to break away from the social rules established by society, especially in regards to acceptable behavior in public space. Most peoples actions are not noticed because they are following these rules. But an action framed as performance, draws attention and communicates, it can create room for people to do what they please, even while under public scrutiny. Actions produce images and sounds, creating symbols--the language of dreams, but conversely they may imitate even the mundanities of everyday life. Every action is performance and may be used to activate space, engaging in a deeper awareness of the present moment. The art label often limits the experience because people think too much about art while creating and observing actions. But without the art label actions are too often overlooked.
